CityU High Space-time Resolution Electronic Microscope Key Spare Parts Research

Team Introduction: 

The team members include CityU current president Guo Wei, who is alsoacademician oftheNational Academy of Engineering, Academia Sinica, and foreignacademician oftheChinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Chen Furong, chair professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and six academicians and experts in electron microscope and material fields. Most members are from CityU and Tsinghua University and have published more than400 articlesintheworld’s influential journalssuch asNature, Nature Communications and PNAS.

Project Introduction: 

Based on the CityU TimeTime-resolved Aberration Corrected Environmental (TRACE) EM Unit, which owns IPRs ofdesk-top pulsed high coherent field gun, a key component of space-time resolved electron microscope, and desk type aberration corrector.

The project will develop research on key technologies and spare parts of high time-space resolution electron microscopes andcarry outstudieson key spare parts based on the existing low-voltage (10-50keV) electron microscopes. The project will beon par with the scales and standards of excellent research institutesin Europe and America and buildninesuper time-space resolution electron beam line stationsto tackle basic science problems in multiple fields. 

The construction of the projectwill takethree years andbreakthrough technologies will be applied inhigh-end transmission electron microscopes and scanning microscopes. Transmission electron microscopes and scanning microscopes were once listed as35 bottleneck technologies by Science and Technology Daily. Electron microscopes are scientific apparatus that are used in basic physics, nanomaterials, chemistry, biology, medicine, semiconductor testing and nanometer processing and multiple tasked fields.High-end electronic optical precision instruments have been widely used in basic scientific research, industrialstudiesand development and manufacturing. They are important approaches to solve challenging problems in national economic construction, social progress, scientific advancements, nationalsafety anddefense.

By using advantages of CityU in talents and technologies and combining Shenzhen’s edge in industrial infrastructure and application innovation, the project will greatly improvethelocalization of high space-time resolution electron microscopes, buildaglobal electron microscope innovation pinnacle and high-end precision apparatus and equipment manufacturing bases,andsupportthefast development of electronic information, semiconductor, biomedicine and other related industries.
