United Imaging Innovation Research Institute 7T Project

Shenzhen United Imaging High-end Medical Equipment Innovation Research Institute is located on the first floor of Shenzhen International Biopharmaceutical Base. It is aprivate, non-profit institution jointly established by Shanghai United Imaging Medical Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT). The United Imagingzone, based on the partnership between Shanghai United Imaging Medical Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and SIAT, targets the world’s cutting-edge technologies and the national demand for major medical equipment development, aims to make breakthroughs in key technologies through joint effort, and by relying on SHCZ’s geographical advantage build SZ-HK Medical Imaging United Research Center,  through partnership with Hong Kong research institutes and clinical medical institutes introduce medical teams from Hong Kong and construct a marketing and innovation platform that links clinical medical research, high-performance medical technology development and clinical diagnosis and treatment, and improve the level of generic technologies of the industry and promote its development.  

The project focuses on research of high field superconducting magnetic resonance imaging system. Presently, the equipment deployed for clinical use is 1.5T and 3T, which are inferior to 7T. However, the 7T equipment is not only a new-generation high-end product, but also a major facility for brain science study. It is a top product in themagnetic resonance imaging field with huge market potential.  

Up to now, only GM and Siemens manufacture the equipment for research and clinical use in the world. United Imaging Institute will focus on the development of human whole body magnetic resonance imaging system and self-proprietary equipment of international advanced level and become capable of developing and manufacturing all core components. It will establish a complete technological system for China’s magnetic resonance industry and a 7T-based platform in Shenzhen for industry, education, research and medicines, a talent platform and a service platform for industrialization.
