The project is headed by Shi Wenzhong, head of PolyU Smart Cities Research Institute, dean ofDepartment of Land Surveying and Geoinformatics,Otto Poon, Charitable Foundationprofessor in Urban Informatics, chairprofessor in GISci and remote sensing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU).
He also serves aseditor-in-chief of International Journal of Urban Informatics andpresident of International Society for Urban Informatics. Professor Shi isacademician oftheInternational Eurasian Academy of Sciences and fellow oftheRoyal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (UK). He is alsothewinner ofProgress Award in Science and Technology issued bytheMinistry of Education andwinner of ChangJiang Scholars. He has published more than250 researchpapersthat are indexed by Science Citation Index (SCI).
Project Introduction:
The reliability of big data is becoming important in smart city construction. Theanalysis of big data has become a basic theoretical problem that needs to be addressed urgently. The projectwillresearch the basic theoretical problem.
In recent years, the research teamhas achievedbreakthroughs in reliable time-spatial big data analysis andundertaken a key research project oftheMinistry of Science and Technology andresolved theproblem of data liability and quality in China’s first geographical surveywhen asked by the State Counciland won the special prize atthe2017 Survey Science Advancement Awards.
In the field ofremotely sensingbigdata with higher accuracy and reliability, the team undertook the project of National Natural Science Foundation andusedforward satellite image algorithm, which was widely publicized by NASA.The project made surveyingchanges in cloudy areasover the Earth’s surfacemore reliable andresolvedlong-standingproblems inthesurveyfield. In basic theory transformation, the team set uptheHong Kong spatial data infrastructure system and established spatial data modeling for Hong Kong and Macao, and technological standards for Macao spatial space quality inspections.
